As if to build a fence around the fatal emptiness inside her, she had to create a sunny person that she became. But if you peeled away the ornamental egos that she had built, there was only an abyss of nothingness and the intense thirst that came with it. Though she tried to forget it, the nothingness would visit her periodically - on a lonely rainy afternoon, or at dawn when she woke up from a nightmare. What she needed at such times was to be held by someone, anyone.

When someone you love dies, and you’re not expecting it, you don’t lose her all at once; you lose her in pieces over a long time - the way the mail stops coming, and her scent fades from the pillows and even from the clothes in her closet and drawers. Gradually, you accumulate the parts of her that are gone. Just when the day comes - when there’s a particular missing part that overwhelms you with the feeling that she’s gone, forever - there comes another day, and another specifically missing part.

There’s a loneliness that only exists in one’s mind. The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.

Your task is not to seek love, but to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it

—  Rumi.  (via sarah-today)

Some people don’t make themselves very easy to love. They have so many barriers, defences and self-protection mechanisms that they scare away almost all who reach out to them. Others appear to be much more open and approachable. It is only when you get to know them really well that you begin to see how their fears are intimidating them. You are conscious now of a relationship that deserves to be deeper, stronger and more meaningful. If that’s what you want, do your best to be giving and patient.

Nobody in history has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them.
